Dear Ms Pickens, Saving America Mustangs- Last year BLM had a TV show on PBS on the problems on management and costs of its western lands. I use for recreation not for any ranching. Part of the show was on horses, it was sided as it gave only the problems and not the history of the west or the importance the horse stills plays in Americana. It showed how expensive it was to use Helicopters to round up the horses. May I suggest, adding a twist to the BLM/ranchers -- as to win a war sometimes it is wise to engage an enemy as a friend in smaller battles. BLM and the ranchers would jump on the save the horse if it was beneficial to them? Let me give you an example. The buffalo had no purpose until it became a part of what a free American stood for. The ranch owners could not stop public opinion. NO one had any use for Geronimo until public opinion changed from him being an enemy to one of a strong independent fighting hero. I can almost guarantee that even the Paiute Indian would embrace the horse if they could see the financial gain and prestige that a few changes would bring if the horse was adapted “into” instead of being rejected. Am example here is the Native American or Indian gambling casino. As soon as the opinion changed it all was suddenly necessary. I am not in politics or anything of that nature but I am a careful observer of peoples attitudes. In 1971 the BLM only changed its policy on the shooting and poisoning mustangs because of public opinion. They fought such change because of a few vocal ranch owners. When I mention the western or wild horses very few know of or understand what it means as part of America, part of all of us. I truly hope you succeed as it is our history, everything from this moment on is all based on keeping our history fresh which includes our wild lands the horses alive and in our hearts. Even Ford still uses this metaphor to sell trucks. Mike Carpenter from Arizona

Dear Madaline and all horse rescuers, I am so glad that there are still people out there who care about these animals. I can not stand to see the fear in the horses eyes as they are being rounded up.I will never understand why people can be so cruel to animals and not care. These are Gods creatures and the fact that humans could care less makes me sick.If the horses could talk they would say thank you. I hope you will continue the fight to keep them were they belong in the wild and on your sanctuary.

I was very lucky to have met Travis aka "Alligator" as I left the races yesterday. It was truly Serendipitous as it was the highlight of the day! Talking to him about the Mustangs made me think of the horse sculptures in Las Colinas, TX. I lived there a long time ago and couldn't remember what kind of horses they were so I came home and Googled it and they are Mustangs! I'm sure you have heard of them and how beautiful they are (http://www.mustangsoflascolinas.com/History.html) but I can't wait to see what your monument will be. Thank you for doing this for our Mustangs.

thank you madeleine and also everyone who cares. i hope every last one of our precious wild horses and burros gets to the mustang monuement safely. i also hope the people who participated in the cruel treatment are punished . don't forget our domestic horses plight also involving the horrible transport to slaughter outside our borders. a bullet in the head would be better than the torture. thank you . you're a genuine angel.

Madeleine Pickens, I know there are a lot of people working and supporting your vision. I applaud YOUR drive, energy and commitment to leading this mission. I ask God to continue to give you strength and guidance and keep you in good care. I have always been passionate about horses and their gentle spirits and amazing powerful strength. These beautiful creatures don't use their powerful strength to fight back. It hurts to see them just try to flee and take this awful abuse with such fear and horrific trauma. They stand in over-crowded hot metal pens, in horrible heat with no shade, being abused and afraid, without any proper care or proper nourishment. They just stand and wait... and wait for 2-3 years. Yes, wait while so called decision-makers discuss it over an expensive lunch and a fancy cocktail for 2-3 minutes (lunch write-off justified). What kind of "human" who holds a position to make this stop actually goes to bed every night without shame? I am so disgusted to know that those same humans are well aware of the MANY contributions to our country made by horses. Humans even made them fight and die with us in war; and these innocent creatures did so... very obediently. Now they are rounded up and abused and treated so horribly. I was NEVER exposed to any of this activity until today, Madeleine. You bet I cried. And you bet I'm mad. Anger, however, is wasted energy. I want you to know I saw and heard your call, Madeleine. I have little to offer to make this stop, BUT I do have a voice... unlike our precious horses. Thank you for educating so many of us, Madeleine. I am left with the question, "How can ANY human abuse such innocent flight animals who have given us so much?" I am trying to stay positive. For today, I can only take a very deep breadth, ignore some pretty damn ugly human behavior, and try hard to visualize these beautiful healthy horses running free with their precious little babies! It will be tough to sleep tonight as my thoughts are racing. Thank you for the opportunity to thank you and your good soul and kind spirit, Madeleine. You are making a difference and standing up on their behalf. Thank you so much for all that you do and have already accomplished. Sincerely, Sylvia from Chicago

Madeleine is today's Wild Horse Annie. I grew up with the wild horses in Nevada. It is disturbing to see the cruel helicopter hunters chasing America's heritage down with such cold hearts...and deep pockets. Public awareness to this continued violation of the Wild Horses and Burros Act and the lack of care by the BLM for the injuries and deaths caused by the treatment of our wild horses and burros should not be ignored. Mustang Monument is a wonderful beginning to a better future for our wild horses.

Such a beautiful sight to see the first mustangs released at Mustang Monument. It was amazing to watch their desire to be free was stronger than their need to eat at that moment. Bless you Madeleine for all your hard work for these beautiful, strong animals and we pray they will be joined by many more.

Thank you for taking the initiative. The spirit of the Mustangs feed us all, ... if we all them to. I think this narrative is even more important for all our new immigrants to get. Being one myself, my life experience in the US got all that much better when I experienced the spirit of our land here ... for me it was out in Indian Country at a Wolf Sanctuary in Ramah, NM. God Bless you all.

We are not fighting the US Government, we are the government and that is why this project is moving forward. Our voices are being heard and it took time. Do not fight, speak your mind. It should never be a fight. Congratulations to all of the US citizens, finally showing a spirit!

Madeleine and the Saving America's Mustangs team has had my full support since the beginning. The grace and strength with which you act on behalf of our wild horses is a mirror reflection of the majestic creatures themselves. We are proud and grateful to have you leading the way on this multi-leveled journey Madeleine; I stand solidly behind you in action and intention. I cannot wait to bring my niece to Mustang Monument one day! Thank you for being who you are and doing what you are meant to do.

I will not have another horse unless I get a mustang. I love them now and I always will. Even as I child I loved mustangs. I am going to adopt one in the very near future as I had to let my Dakota go a couple of years ago. I am an advocate for these beautiful animals because they need all of us to make sure they do not become just a memory.

I think you and Madeleine Pickens are doing an amazing job and I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I have lost a great deal of sleep over this issue and will not rest comfortably until the mustangs and burros are safe again. I understand Ted Turner has taken an advisory role. This is great news as, from what I have read, he seems a really good man. I am keeping up to date and posting on my blog and Facebook regularly. Madeleine, dare I suggest that you try and rally the support of Pat and Linda Parelli, he has global reach now and may add even further clout to your efforts. Shelley and I have 5 horses here in Scotland and embrace a natural horsemanship approach. We love them as family and like family, will be with us for life. God bless you and give you strength to continue your wonderful work, we know you will win through in the end.

In the summer of 2010, near Craig, Colorado, I had the great pleasure of seeing small herds of mustangs while on vacation. It was through that experience that I found out of the plight of the mustangs. Thank you, Madeline, and God Bless you for never giving up the fight to save their lives. What kind of world would we have without these wonderful creatures!
