I am appauled that a country that takes pride in preserving life, natural resourses, humanitarian treatment of all living things allows this cruelity to exist. Who's palm is being greased? The individual or individuals that support this action are equal to those that are involved in dog fighting. How can you sleep at night, with your backing of such brutality, viciousness, callousness and heartlessness. If I had $$$$ I would stop this.

Keep up the good fight Madeleine, and show the world and the American people, that the BLM leaders an workers are NOT the only ones to have monopoly on the Mustang's welfare and futur. They are NOT the only "wild horse experts" in this country and must learn to trust and let members of the public help them save the Mustangs humanely. They obviously can't do it all by themselves !!

For many years now I have been disgusted at the activities of the BLM in regards to the Wild Mustangs. You, Madeleine, are to be applauded. You are not only putting your money where your mouth is, but you are creating awareness of this heinous act. When the time comes I would love to come to Nevada and do any volunteer work I can to assist you and this wonderful project. Thank you Madeleine Pickens and the Advisory Board.

Those who critized the $500 per year per horse must not realize the BLM is currently spending $2500 per year now. I also own horses and know the expense involved in keeping them healty. I recently viewed the trailer of the new film about this issue Someone inthe film commented we are paying our hard earned cash to send these horses to concentration camps. I for one do not like my tax dollars wasted especially for institutionalized cruelty. Bravo to SAM and Madelene - everyone needs to spread the message

Keep up the fight to save americas history.. the horse is the symbol for the developing west and should be recognized and protected. not rounded up and auctioned or destroyed. The fathers who worked and claimed the lands starte it with a horse!!

I have written many times to the president. I have written to the BLM and I believe they need to do the right thing and let these horses roam free. They are part of our heritage. I will continue to right on their behalf and Mr. Pickens until the right thing is done.

Why must all of our natural resources be "killed off" like this!!! What harm do these horses do to humans? They are our natural resource & we should be saving & helping them them instead of killing them! STOP THIS SENSELESS KILLING!!!!

I truly cannot believe some of the negative comments here.. While everyone is entitled to their own opinion, there are too many who are misinformed about the facts.. Even though the slaughter houses in the U.S. were shut down,so many innocent horses are being shipped to Mexico & Canada (at alarming numbers)to suffer an even more grueling, barbaric method of slaughter.. I am trying very hard not to react to the negatives here, meaning the people who do not have their facts straight, and who need to do more research re: the situation with the mustangs & wild burros.... Madeline in this for money???? That comment is insane! Many Thanks to all of the Orgs. who truly care about the welfare of the innocent ones. We will keep moving on here...And will remember that we are in this to help the innocent ones who cannot speak for themselves...
Bison!
Jan 19, 2011
These horses should be removed and replaced with the bison, or elk, that traditional roamed the western rangelands. Just because there are horses roaming the west doesn't mean they should continue to. I prefer a healthy environment of native species, rather than the perpetuation of a system maintained by people who have some crazed attachment to a falsely romaticised notion of the American West.

ROD Do you want to know how much money Madeline is getting for each horse she puts in her wild horse sanctuary? 500 dollars each. DUH! She is in it for the money! Also the BLM is working with Madeline to put the horses on her STUPID sanctuary. Also... you have to take the horses off the range before you can ever put them in the sanctuary. Also the BLM long term holding pens cover thousands of acres but they have immediate food and water. they also have vet care when needed. This is a quote from a friend that isn't retarded like you "Madeleine Pickens would be working for the BLM. She would receive $500 per horse per year from BLM. This is on public land that is currently allotted to ranches who pay BLM for the privilege of running cattle on it... The proposed ranch sanctuaries cannot be exactly “wild.” Their proposal agrees that the land has to be fenced and the horses have to be fed and cared for. That is the law. In the wild, they could roam wherever and would be subject to survival of the fittest. Also part of their proposal is a “no increase” clause that would advocate neutering. The Nevada State Board of Wildlife Commissioners is very worried about the survival of wildlife species in the proposed area. No matter what the advocates say, deer, antelope, etc. were here before the horses were introduced/reintroduced." Sorry if that is a bit to deep for you... sometimes people's brains don't work right.

OMG YOU PEOPLE ARE SO DRAMATIC. I MEAN THE HORSES ARE FINE. THE BLM IS FINE. THE BLM HELPS THE ANIMALS. THE HORSES DON'T OWN THE LAND. THEY AREN'T EVEN FROM THIS CONTRY! READING YOUR COMMENTS... YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING DO YOU? YOU AER DIGGING THE HORSES GRAVES. THE HORSES LEFT ON THE RANGE WILL STARVE AND IT WILL BE ALL YOUR FAULT. HORSES HAVE LIVES AND THEY ARE LIVING THEM PERFECTLY WELL. HORSES THAT ARE ADOPTED ARE LOVED. DON'T YOU GET IT? THE HORSES ARE ADOPTER FOR THE BETTER. DON'T YOU LOVE THE HORSES YOU OWN? IF YOU DO DON'T YOU KNOW THAT IF IT WEREN'T FOR BLM ROUNDUPS YOUR HORSES WOULDN'T EXIST.

Today the wild horses are going through tough times. Horses are on the range but can easily overgraze and over populate. The BLM takes horses off the land because if they didn't the horses would slowly start to take over. Then when grass started to disappear the horses would starve to death. They would start eating glass, plastic, and other materials that wouldn't do them any good. The BLM takes horses off the lands in humane ways that don't scare the horses as much as older machienes. YES the BLM didn't do a very good job during the time of Velma Johnston but that has changed. They make sure the horse is put into a good home. Think... if the BLM didn't take care of the horses what would we be seeing. Horses in so bad conditions that would make us cry. If you put a horse down to put it out of its misery the horse would be better off. If you let your horse suffer and die a slow death than the horse would hate you. If you put it down without any pain the horse will love you. It's more painful to suffer than just to die. HOW WOULD YOU LIKE IT IF YOU WERE SUFFERING AND IN PAIN AND BLEEDING TO DEATH BUT NO ONE WOULD GIVE YOU A SHOT TO PUT YOU TO SLEEP BUT INSTEAD JUST LET YOU SUFFER. ITS JUST LIKE GOING THOUGH SURGERY WITHOUT GOING TO SLEEP WITH THAT SPECIAL MEDICINE. YOU BEING CUT INTO WITHOUT THE SLEEPY MEDS. THINK ABOUT IT.

The money the BLM spends each year tormenting the wild horses would have been more than enough to come up with other sufficient ideas that people like Richard Couto and Simone Neatherlands contributed. Like most political organizations a play on words to fool the public into believing they are doing the right thing. I vote for no more BLM. If I was not a lady I would really tell everyone what I think of the BLM.

Horses are not a native species in North America. They were brought from Europe by the Spanish during the 16th century. While I am supportive of your no kill efforts, a sterilization and removal program should certainly be implemented. I love horses, but in the Americas they should be confined to ranches.

God Bless you for your attempts to save our wild horses. I wish I lived close to your future sight and I would love to volunteer and help in any way I could. I just saved an Arabian, blind in one eye and not broke to ride, from heading to auction. I know due to the blindness and the inability to be ridden, he would have been sent in a trailer to Canada or Mexico. He is a sweetie and I would hope to get other horses when I retire. I am 70 years old this year and my week is not complete without getting to be near my Brave Heart on the weekend, grooming him, giving him treats and kisses and hugs. I wish I had the funds and could do what you are trying to do. Even on a small scale, I would love to have a place for some of the horses that are being held at Fallon and other locations. May you succeed in your endeavors to save this beautiful animal for generations to admire, love, and treasure.

Goodness American's are we going to kill all the animals from the past, not only the wild horses, but the animals in Africa. Are our children going to have to read about the wild horse in books, but never get a chance to see a live one even on TV. What are you thinking? Dear Lord please help all the animals you have created

The Rose Bowl Float was absolutely gorgeous. The crowd appeared to appreciate all the work that went into its creation. Thank you Madeleine and helpers for your devotion to this cause. Please give us assignments to carry out for us home-bound horse lovers. The letter-writing campaigns are my favorites but I haven't seen one in quite a while. It is very difficult for a lot of us to see the round-ups and the horse holding pens and to read your letters about the hardships the horses go through. But, I think I have read enough of the BLM and their "pat" answers to questions and comments. "Ya, that'll happen", in response to horses being down in trailers. GRRR... Long Time Horse Owner And Equine Lover,
